Ministry of Public Works Sets up Mobile Weighing Stations, Inspects Trucks on National Road 5

Banteay Meanchey: Government is getting tough on overloaded vehicles on Banteay Meanchey’s stretch of National Road 5. Secretary of State in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Seng Chuot, is chair of a new “Scale Coordinating Committee” that is introducing mobile weighing stations for heavy goods vehicles. Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport, Sok Chantha, oversaw the weighing of vehicles in addition to the inspection of vehicles on Saturday.

Seng Chuot says that, in accordance with the recommendation of Public Works Minister, Sun Chanthol, the measures are aimed at limiting the damaging impact overloaded vehicles are having on the country’s National roads.

The Secretary of State has also appealed to the owners of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) that they must respect load limits or run the risk of being fined. On Saturday, three such vehicles were fined in Banteay Meanchey. All were either transporting construction materials or agricultural products.
