Authorities Mobilize Forces for Security and Fire Prevention Ahead of Chinese New Year

Phnom Penh: As the traditional Chinese New Year festival approaches next week, Lieutenant General Chuon Narin, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Phnom Penh Police, has mandated all police units to intensify efforts to ensure security, public order, safety, and fire prevention.

Colonel Sam Nicheka, spokesperson for the Phnom Penh Police, reported this directive on the morning of January 22, 2025. He stated that Lieutenant General Chuon Narin has ordered all personnel within the Phnom Penh Police Department to operate at a heightened state of readiness to effectively adhere to the directives from the National Police and local administrative authorities.

In this context, Lieutenant General Chuon Narin emphasized the importance of monitoring markets closely, particularly to regulate the sale of firecrackers and fireworks, which are strictly prohibited. He directed the Economic Crime Police Unit to actively prevent the transport of these banned items into the metropolitan area of Phnom Penh.

Additionally, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner highlighted the need for heightened vigilance regarding the burning of incense sticks, which could pose a fire risk. He instructed the Fire Prevention, Extinguishing, and Rescue Police Office to actively publicize fire safety measures during this period.

Lieutenant General Chuon Narin also reminded drivers to adhere to traffic laws and refrain from drinking alcohol to ensure road safety and minimize the risk of traffic accidents during the festive season.
