A Scottish man, Jordan Maclachlan, 26, has been confirmed dead while serving as a medic with the Ukrainian army on the frontline. His family, hailing from Ardnamurchan in the Scottish Highlands, announced his passing on Friday, sharing their deep sense of pride in his commitment to helping others during a time of crisis.
In a statement, the family described Jordan as a dedicated individual who believed in making a difference. “Jordan always believed that he was making a difference and we are all so proud of him helping others,” they said. They also expressed their grief and noted the limited information they had received, adding, “We are waiting for further information from the Foreign Office.”
Jordan was described by his family as a fun-loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, and they stated he would be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed they are assisting the family and are in communication with local authorities regarding the situation.
Jordan Maclachlan is not the first British national to lose his life while fighting in Ukraine. In November, Callum Tindal-Draper, 22, was killed while serving with a foreign volunteer platoon. His father, Steven Draper, expressed sorrow over his son's decision to go to Ukraine despite the family's pleas for him to stay home. "We begged and begged and begged him not to go," he told BBC News. “But Callum said: ‘Dad, I’m not frightened of bullies and what’s going on in Ukraine is awful and someone needs to stand up for these people.’”
Additionally, Christopher Perryman, a British ex-army sniper, was killed in Ukraine last November after joining a unit of Western volunteers. Another Briton, Jordan Chadwick, a former Scots Guards member, died in June 2023, prompting Lancashire police to inform his mother, Brenda, of his death after he had traveled to Ukraine to fight. BBC
