Prime Minister Hun Manet Celebrates Peace Day in Cambodia with Friendly Football Matches

Phnom Penh – On the evening of December 29, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet and First lady,  presided over a friendly football match celebrating “Peace Day in Cambodia,” a day commemorating the end of the Cambodian civil war through the win-win policy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

The event featured matches between the Cambodian Star Football Team and the Kun Khmer Football Team, as well as between the Cambodian Star Football Team and the Cambodian Youth Federation Football Team. The latter included prominent leaders of the Cambodian Youth Federation, such as Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister Tea Seiha, and Deputy Prime Minister Say Sam Al.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his happiness in participating in the friendly football event, marking the first official celebration of “Peace Day in Cambodia” since the Royal Government designated December 29 as an annual observance in January 2024.

He noted the large attendance of spectators, highlighting the participation of four teams that represented various sectors, including the Youth Union of Cambodia, the Cambodian Stars Football Team, and the Kun Khmer Football Team. Manet emphasized that this participation demonstrated a collective spirit of sportsmanship and a commitment to maintaining peace, embodying the theme "Sports Live in Peace."

Reflecting on the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet remarked that the warm atmosphere, filled with the smiles of spectators at The Morodok Techo National Sports Complex, evoked memories of Cambodia's successful hosting of the SEA Games and Para Games in 2023, events that garnered widespread national and international acclaim.

He underscored that the achievements in these sports events were not coincidental but were rooted in the vital factors of peace and political stability, which have been cultivated over the past few decades.

Finally, Prime Minister Hun Manet recalled the words of General Sao Sokha, who remarked that Cambodian youth today are fortunate to enjoy peace, contrasting their experiences with those of youths in countries such as Ukraine, who face the horrors of conflict.
