Phnom Penh: In a significant move to bolster labor cooperation, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training of Cambodia and the Miyagi Prefectural Government of Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on December 27, 2024. The agreement aims to facilitate the sending and acceptance of Cambodian interns and workers to Miyagi Prefecture.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training office, was chaired by Mr. Heng Sour, Cambodia's Minister of Labor and Vocational Training; Mr. Murai Yoshihiro, Governor of Miyagi Prefecture; and Mr. Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.

This memorandum establishes a comprehensive framework for collaboration, targeting the training and support of Cambodian workers in Japan. It also provides enhanced assistance for those currently employed in Miyagi Prefecture.

During his remarks, Minister Heng Sour expressed optimism that the cooperation would strengthen ties and elevate labor sector collaboration between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of increasing opportunities for Cambodian interns and workers in Japan, as well as ensuring the provision of necessary support services for those already in Miyagi Prefecture.

The Minister extended his gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Miyagi Prefecture Administration for their ongoing support of Cambodian workers. He underscored that the Royal Government of Cambodia views labor migration as a vital driver of economic growth and development, essential for poverty reduction and improving citizens' lives. Moreover, working in Japan offers Cambodian citizens valuable opportunities for economic advancement and cultural exchange, allowing them to gain insight into Japan's renowned work ethic and character development.
