Heng Sour Presides Over Closing Ceremony of 16-Day Campaign to End Gender-Based Violence and Harassment in the Workplace

Phnom Penh: Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, Heng Sour,  presided over the closing ceremony of the 16-Day Campaign under the theme “Together to End Gender-Based Violence and Harassment in the World of Work” on the morning of December 10, 2024, at the Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh.

During the ceremony, Heng Sour emphasized the significance of the diverse participation from representatives of relevant ministries, unions, employers, civil society organizations, brand owners, and development partners. He highlighted this involvement as a reflection of a collective commitment to eradicating gender-based violence and harassment in workplaces.

The Minister underscored the Royal Government's dedication to preventing and eliminating all forms of violence and harassment in work environments. He noted the necessity of collaboratively establishing common principles to ensure effective implementation of these efforts. HE Heng Sour also mentioned that the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has been actively working with national and international organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders to raise awareness regarding the prevention and elimination of violence and harassment against women.

In alignment with these objectives, the Ministry has launched the Strategic Plan for the Development of the Labor, Social Security, and Vocational Training Sector for 2024-2028, which includes specific strategies aimed at promoting gender equality within the labor sector.

Heng Sour announced that the Ministry will produce educational posters to be displayed in factories and enterprises. These materials are intended to inform workers, employees, and employers about the importance of preventing and eliminating all forms of violence and harassment against women. The Minister also urged all stakeholders to actively engage in this campaign.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign has been observed annually since 1991, running from November 25 to December 10.
