inauguration of University of Health Sciences Hospital Marks Milestone in Cambodian Healthcare

Phnom Penh: On December 10, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over the inauguration of the University of Health Sciences Hospital in Sen Sok District, an ambitious project set to greatly enhance medical services in Cambodia. The hospital, valued at over $66 million, is located at Campus 3 along the Phnom Penh-Hanoi Friendship Boulevard in Anlong Kgan Village.

The newly constructed facility spans eight floors, including a basement, with a total building area of 27,079.06 square meters. The construction process took 28 months on a site that occupies over 20,000 square meters, with nearly 5,000 square meters dedicated to land area.

Dr. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, detailed the hospital's layout, which includes specialized departments designed to handle a broad spectrum of medical needs. The facility features amenities such as a central warehouse, a morgue, various medical departments, and a pharmacy. Key services offered include medical imaging, outpatient services, emergency care, intensive care, maternity services, and pediatric care, amounting to a total of 143 inpatient beds.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea highlighted ongoing support for Cambodia's health sector, stating the project's completion is anticipated in 2027. The Embassy affirmed that Cambodia ranks as the third-largest development partner of South Korea.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of health as a national asset, advocating for significant investment in healthcare as a means to develop human resources. “Healthy citizens can contribute more effectively to society, making health a priority for national advancement,” he stated.

Additionally, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced plans to enhance the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) by exploring family package options for the NSSF card. He remarked on the government's initiative to provide health insurance for citizens and their dependents, reducing the financial burden during healthcare crises.

The Prime Minister called on health units to improve service delivery, particularly for vulnerable populations, ensuring equitable access to healthcare regardless of personal circumstances or background. He stressed the importance of maintaining ethical standards and professionalism among healthcare providers to uphold the dignity of medical services.

In closing, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude to the leaders and healthcare workers dedicated to advancing the health sector in Cambodia, highlighting their essential role in enhancing the lives of citizens nationwide.
