Ministry of Information and Phnom Penh International University Sign MOU for Professional Training in Information and Audiovisual Sector
Phnom Penh: On December 4, 2024, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Information and Phnom Penh International University, aiming to enhance cooperation on skilled training programs within the framework of the information and audiovisual sector. The signing ceremony, held at Phnom Penh International University, was officiated by Neth Pheakta, Minister of Information, and Tep Kolap, Rector of the university, with the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Information.
During the ceremony, Minister Neth Pheakta emphasized the critical role that human resources play in the development of Cambodia's information and audiovisual sector. He highlighted the need for higher education institutions, including Phnom Penh International University, to contribute to this development by creating robust curricula and providing specialized training to improve the quantity and quality of human resources in the sector.
"This cooperation will contribute to Cambodia's human resources and build successors in the information and audiovisual sector with quality, competence, and real skills," stated Minister Pheakta, underscoring the importance of this initiative in increasing public trust in the information sector.
The MoU is intended to strengthen partnerships between public and private institutions, catering to the evolving needs of the information sector driven by modern technology and artificial intelligence. The curriculum developed under this agreement will focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, encompassing a wide range of media-related subjects.
Core topics to be included in the curriculum are journalism, television production, digital journalism, public relations, advertising marketing, and interactive media. The goal is to prepare students for the demands of the digital age while equipping them with comprehensive skills necessary for the media industry.
Expressing her gratitude, Tep Kolap, the Rector of Phnom Penh International University, assured the Minister of her commitment to fast-track the launch of the training courses and to establish a strategic plan for the program's sustainability.
This partnership represents a vital step in the Ministry of Information's ongoing efforts to develop specialized education and training frameworks within the information and audiovisual sector. Notably, the Ministry also re-opened its Journalism Professional Training Center at the end of 2023 as part of its broader initiative to promote professional development and training in the field.
The Ministry of Information is committed to continued collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the information and audiovisual sector in Cambodia, thereby contributing to the country's sustainable social and economic development.
