Prime Minister Proposes Railway Project to Enhance Connectivity to Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport

Phnom Penh, November 21, 2024 - Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced plans for a feasibility study on a railway project that will connect Siem Reap city to Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport via Kyungyoun Road. This proposed railway would span approximately 13 kilometers, aimed at improving transportation options for both citizens and tourists.

During a graduation ceremony for the students of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined the project, stating, “I am studying another line. The first is the railway from the airport to the city, but I am exploring an additional route that is shorter than Kyungyoun Road, which has just been newly constructed. This new railway will cover only 13 kilometers from the existing internal road, from the intersection to Banteay Srei, facilitating easier access to the airport.”

In addition to the railway proposal, the Prime Minister highlighted plans for the expansion of National Road No. 6 and the development of the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet expressway, which are also set to enhance travel options for the public.

The railway initiative and road improvements are part of the government's broader strategy to bolster infrastructure, promote tourism, and provide efficient transportation solutions in the region. This development aligns with Cambodia's ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and support economic growth through improved transport networks.
