PM Hun Manet Praises IDC-CDI's Peace-Loving Spirit at Executive Committee Meeting in Siem Reap

Siem Reap, Cambodia – Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia lauded the peace-loving spirit of the International Democratic Center for Democracy and Cooperation (IDC-CDI) at its Executive Committee Meeting held in Siem Reap on November 18, 2024. Addressing delegates from 26 political parties and 24 countries, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of global collaboration for peace, security, and development.

"Our gathering is to ensure a common position for security and stability, and global development," PM Hun Manet said in his keynote address, stressing that the IDC-CDI's efforts are vital in fostering peaceful cooperation among nations. He expressed confidence that the organization would continue to provide valuable input and policy recommendations that promote peace and the well-being of people worldwide.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the organization's commitment to core values such as peace, press freedom, trust, accountability, and the inclusion of youth and women in peace and security efforts. "We are witnessing a historic turning point in modern history, as governments, parliaments, political parties, and civil society organizations around the world converge on a shared vision of innovation and peace," he noted, acknowledging the significant role of the United Nations in building global peace.

PM Hun Manet encouraged the IDC-CDI's global community to unite in this journey, adapting to changing geopolitical and economic conditions while strengthening bonds based on trust and cooperation.

The meeting also featured a special forum on "Peace for Humanity and the Planet," alongside discussions on the role of youth in peace-building and global dialogue. These sessions underscored IDC-CDI’s dedication to addressing global challenges through inclusive and collaborative approaches.

With over 109 member parties from 83 countries across Europe, Latin America, North America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region, the IDC-CDI represents a broad spectrum of moderate political ideologies. Cambodia’s involvement in the organization has grown steadily under the leadership of Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP). The CPP became a full member of the IDC-CDI during its committee meetings in Lisbon, Portugal, in April 2016.

The Siem Reap gathering marks another significant step in Cambodia's active participation in international efforts to promote democratic values, peace, and global cooperation.
