Chinese Song Contest Fosters Cultural Exchange Between Cambodia and China

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – The Chinese Song Contest for the 2024 Ambassador Award to Cambodia wrapped up on November 13, 2024, at the Khmer Academy Building of the Royal Academy of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. The event, attended by Education Minister Hangchuon Naron and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, celebrated the deepening cultural and people-to-people ties between Cambodia and China.

Minister Hangchuon Naron emphasized the significance of such programs in fostering a closer relationship between Cambodian and Chinese youth. “On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, I would like to express my admiration and pride for the children and candidates who have made it to the finals of the Chinese Song Ambassador Award,” he said. “This program is a driving force for Cambodian youth to learn Chinese and helps bridge the generations of both our countries.”

2024 marks the 66th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China, underscoring the growing friendship and cooperation between the two nations. Ambassador Wang Wenbin highlighted the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening the bonds between the two peoples. “Over the past 66 years, China and Cambodia have deepened their friendship and partnership,” Wang said. “Today’s program underscores the importance of cultural and human ties in this ongoing relationship.”

The contest featured 16 talented young contestants who performed a variety of Chinese songs, showcasing their language skills and passion for the culture. Among the performances was a special tribute to Princess Norodom Chenna, whose songs were interpreted in Chinese, reinforcing the theme of cultural exchange and people-to-people relations.

Malina, the first-place winner, shared her excitement at taking part in the competition. “This is my first time participating in a Chinese song contest, and I never expected to win,” she said. “I’ve been learning Chinese since I was a child, and the language means a lot to me. I would love to take part again if there are future opportunities.”

Ambassador Wang encouraged both Cambodian and Chinese youth to continue learning each other’s languages.

“Through language, we can strengthen the relationship between our two countries. Hopefully everyone will be an ambassador for the relationship between the two countries,” he said.
