Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal Calls for Collaboration to Enhance Cambodia's Construction Sector

Phnom Penh: During the first meeting of the National Council for Technical Construction Regulations held on November 12, 2024, at the Ministry’s office, Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, who also serves as the Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, urged relevant ministries, institutions, and the private sector to actively engage in the drafting of construction technical regulations that align with established technical standards to advance the construction sector in Cambodia.

Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating that its purpose is to gather opinions and collaboratively develop construction technical regulations for implementation in the Kingdom. He remarked that this endeavor is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, but rather a collective effort vital for the national interest.

He further recommended fostering a strong relationship between the government and the private sector to enhance mutual understanding and collaboratively address the challenges faced in the construction industry, which would contribute to a more robust national economy benefiting both the nation and its citizens.

Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal outlined the roles within the National Council for Construction Technical Regulations, noting that the council is responsible for formulating legal standards, while the General Department of Construction is tasked with their execution. Additionally, laboratories will evaluate these standards to ensure the improvement of construction quality in Cambodia.

The Deputy Prime Minister also encouraged participation from relevant ministries, institutions, and the private sector in the drafting of regulations with the National Council, aiming to enhance construction quality and streamline processes within the industry to align with Cambodia's context. He called on universities and associations of engineers and architects to join in the drafting of the technical regulations for construction standards.
