Phnom Penh – The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) detained two additional individuals on Tuesday as part of the ongoing investigation into bribery cases linked to Mr. Ly Samet and Mr. Lach Samrong. The two newly arrested individuals are Mr. Lay Viseth, the Deputy Governor of Pursat Province, and Mr. Kan Sokkay, the former governor of Lvea Em District.
According to preliminary information, the ACU has decided to arrest Deputy Governor Lay Viseth on suspicion of using $570,000 in bribes to secure positions through Ly Samet and Lach Samrong. Similarly, Kan Sokkay on using $300,000 to obtain a mayoral position.
The investigation has also led to the earlier arrests of Mr. Muong Khim and Mr. Ouk Thi, who were apprehended by the ACU on Sunday as part of the same bribery inquiry. Notably, on October 8, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a sub-decree terminating Mr. Kan Sokkay from his position as Governor of Lvea Em District in Kandal Province, further indicating the seriousness of the allegations involved in this case.
