Siem Reap, Cambodia – On the afternoon of November 9, 2024, a ceremonial planting of three Bodhi trees, worshiped from Sri Lanka, took place at the Vipassana Thom Angol Center in Thmor Choul village, Tbeng commune, Banteay Srey district. The event was attended by Samdech Kittiprit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, along with First Lady Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet and various delegates.

During the ceremony, Samdech Kittiprit Bun Rany Hun Sen highlighted the significance of the Bodhi tree, noting its historical importance as it is grafted from a renowned tree. She emphasized that the Vipassana center, known for its tranquil environment, requires shade trees to enhance its suitability for meditation and worship for Buddhists and students visiting the site.

The committee at the Vipassana Center stated that the planting of these trees serves to introduce new students to the facility and its ample grounds, while also fostering a deeper understanding of Vipassana meditation techniques. Following this initial planting, the committee announced plans to plant over 300 additional trees at the center on November 10, aimed at further enhancing the site's shaded areas.

Samdech Kittiprit Bun Rany Hun Sen called on the public to nurture forest areas and to plant various seedlings in vacant lands to promote a greener environment in Cambodia. She advocated for an increase in natural farming initiatives to improve the quality of life for families and communities.

Samdech Kittiprit Bun Rany Hun Sen extended gratitude to the Vipassana Center for its role in gathering practitioners and establishing a conducive space for meditation. She commended the center’s leadership for their efforts in developing the large facility as a venue for spiritual practice, education, and an attractive destination for Buddhist tourism, surrounded by lush greenery.
