Siem Reap, November 4, 2024 – Siem Reap is set to host three significant sporting events in the Angkor area at the end of 2024, aimed at promoting sports, tourism, and cultural engagement.
The lineup of events includes:
1. The 29th Angkor Wat International Half Marathon - This premier marathon event will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in front of the iconic Angkor Wat temple. The marathon will be held under the high presidency of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
2. The 5th World Kun Khmer Championship - Scheduled from December 6 to 8, 2024, this championship will be held in the courtyard in front of the Royal Palace in Siem Reap, adjacent to the Siem Reap River. The event will showcase traditional Cambodian martial arts, drawing competitors from various countries.
3. Raid Amazons - A popular female-only adventure race, the Raid Amazons event will take place from December 24 to 29, 2024. Participants will navigate through a series of challenges, including hurdles, canoeing, and cycling, throughout the scenic Angkor resort area and along the Tonle Sap Lake.
In preparation for these events, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) convened with the Siem Reap Provincial Administration and relevant units to ensure a smooth execution of the 2024 Games. The meeting, chaired by Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, included discussions with Mrs. Monny Rainsy, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap, and various local departments.
The meeting focused on establishing effective cooperation among provincial authorities and relevant units concerning security, traffic management, and the promotion of sports education. The aim is to ensure the safety, order, and success of the upcoming events, making them both enjoyable and memorable for participants and spectators alike.
