Fifty Communes Recognized in "Safe Village, Commune/Sangkat" Policy Competition

Phnom Penh : On October 24, 2024, a significant event took place at the Ministry of Environment in Cambodia, where fifty communes from 41 districts were honored for their achievements in the "Safe Village, Commune/Sangkat" policy competition, part of the 6th Qualification Framework for 2024. The awarding ceremony was presided over by HE Dr. Eang Sophalleth, the Minister of Environment.

During the ceremony, Minister Sophalleth expressed his heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the Ministry, institutions, local authorities at all levels, and stakeholders. He specifically acknowledged the dedication and hard work of commune chiefs and the local populace who contributed to transforming the landscape of villages and communes across the country into clean, green environments.

Minister Sophalleth emphasized that the "Safe Village, Commune/Sangkat" competition aligns with the development of a Green Belt in Cambodia. He highlighted that this initiative serves as an incentive mechanism aimed at addressing solid and liquid waste issues, creating beautiful and garbage-free environments, promoting healthy living, and fostering the development of both community life and the national economy. By enhancing the cleanliness of these areas, Cambodia can also attract more tourism and investment in the future, backed by the clear policies and strategies of the Royal Government.

The Minister also noted that the Ministry of Environment has initiated a series of campaigns aimed at improving the well-being and living standards of rural residents, ensuring they live in clean and beautiful environments. These efforts not only stimulate local economic growth but also encourage the public to adopt clean habits, contributing to the overarching goal of achieving "Clean Cambodia, Green Cambodia, and Sustainability."

Dr. Eang Sophalleth underlined the importance of transforming public mindsets to foster kindness and environmental protection. He stressed that cultivating good habits and practices is essential in a world increasingly focused on climate change and green development. The Cambodian government is committed to addressing these challenges and emphasizes sustainable development through environmental protection, responsible resource utilization, and enhanced energy efficiency.
