Prime Minister Hun Manet Highlights Cultural Preservation and National Unity at Cambodian Red Cross Youth Ceremony

Phnom Penh, 19 October 2024: In a stirring address at the "Gathering and Scarfing Ceremony for Cambodian Red Cross Youth" in Phnom Penh, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged youth from 25 higher education institutions to prioritize both personal development and national identity.

Speaking at the ceremony this morning, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of academic dedication, encouraging students to deeply engage with their fields of study while also embracing the promotion of Cambodia's rich culture and traditions. He remarked, “Continue to thoroughly study your major and expand your knowledge by learning about digital information technology and foreign languages, which are essential for the domestic and global labor markets.”

Highlighting the critical role of culture in national identity, Prime Minister Manet stated, “When culture fades, the nation disintegrates; when culture flourishes, the nation thrives.” He called on the youth to actively participate in the preservation and flourishing of Cambodian culture as a means of fostering national unity.

The Prime Minister appealed for a collective effort against divisive ideologies. “Shall continuously unite in cultivating ideas and a spirit of national unity, fostering love for national culture and patriotism,” he said, urging attendees to “think with your head and act with your heart.”

Prime Minister Manet emphasized the importance of community engagement, encouraging youth to enhance peer-to-peer education and provide support to those in need, particularly orphaned students and the elderly. “Continue to strengthen and expand sharing culture and support Cambodian Red Cross students and youth in need,” he urged.

The Prime Minister called for active participation in the Cambodian Red Cross's youth policies, emphasizing the crucial role of the younger generation in shaping a brighter future for Cambodia. The event served as a rallying call for youth to embrace their cultural heritage while contributing positively to society, echoing a commitment to unity and service among those present.
