Cambodian PM: Continuous Education Reform Key to Building Human Resources

Phnom Penh, September 27, 2024 — Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of regularly updating Cambodia’s education reform to build a strong foundation for human resources. He made the remarks during a graduation ceremony for approximately 3,530 graduates of the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE) at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh this morning.

In his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the evolving nature of global education, pointing out that some countries, which once embraced tablet-based learning for students, are now reassessing its impact. "Many students have become less focused on reading," he said, noting that these countries are now adjusting their approaches.

“In this sense, Cambodia’s education system also needs to modernize, and reforms must be implemented regularly,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the ongoing work by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, noting that reforms are being made not only in higher education but also across primary and secondary schools.

“If we know that AI is coming, we should not wait for AI to come to us. We must be prepared. If we aim to drive our economy based on science, we need to apply STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—and we are ready for this,” Hun Manet emphasized.

He also reiterated that education has long been a priority for Cambodia and will continue to be central to the Kingdom's sustainable development.
