Cambodia and Ukraine Sign Visa Exemption Agreement for Diplomatic and Service Passports

Phnom Penh, September 27, 2024 — Cambodia and Ukraine have formalized an agreement to exempt visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, service, or official passports. The agreement was signed on September 25 by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sok Chenda Sophea, and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha.

The signing took place following bilateral discussions between the two nations during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in multilateral frameworks.

In addition to this diplomatic engagement, Sok Chenda Sophea also met with Julie Bishop, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Myanmar, on the same day. During the meeting, Cambodia’s foreign minister shared the country’s experiences in ending conflict and achieving national reconciliation.

Sok Chenda Sophea also outlined Cambodia’s position on the ongoing crisis in Myanmar, emphasizing the importance of continued engagement with ASEAN and supporting mechanisms such as the ASEAN Special Envoy, Troika, and the expanded Troika.

Julie Bishop expressed her appreciation for Cambodia’s insights and for sharing its stance and efforts in seeking a resolution to the crisis in Myanmar.
