Phnom Penh, September 17, 2024 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Executive Director of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Transformation (TBI), at the Peace Palace to discuss collaborative opportunities between Cambodia and the institute.
During the meeting, Tony Blair commended the significant strides Cambodia has made in recent years, particularly in launching the first phase of the Royal Government's long-term vision strategy. He expressed admiration for the country's progress and reaffirmed the Tony Blair Institute's commitment to partnering with Cambodia to support its strategic development objectives.
Blair highlighted TBI's global work, which spans multiple countries, including those in the ASEAN region. He shared the institute’s mission to provide policy advice and development strategies to governments worldwide. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with Cambodia to contribute to the country’s socio-economic growth.
In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude for the Tony Blair Institute's interest in collaborating with Cambodia. He provided an update on the achievements of Cambodia’s 7th legislature of the National Assembly and encouraged further discussions between TBI and Cambodian ministries and institutions to explore specific areas of cooperation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on potential areas for joint initiatives, particularly in education, vocational training, healthcare, digitalization, and investment, which could further enhance Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening Cambodia’s international partnerships and fostering long-term collaborations to meet its strategic goals.
