Cambodia to Maintain High Standards in Medical Training

PHNOM PENH, September 17, 2024 — Prime Minister Hun Manet has reaffirmed that Cambodia will not compromise on the quality of medical training to increase the number of doctors, emphasizing the need to prioritize the skills and capacity of healthcare professionals.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of three new buildings at Calmette Hospital, a leading public hospital in Cambodia, Hun Manet stressed the importance of maintaining high standards in medical education to ensure effective healthcare.

“We must focus on the quality of our medical doctors, not just their quantity. Lowering the standard of medical training would jeopardize the effectiveness of life-saving interventions,” the Prime Minister said.

He urged relevant institutions to continue improving medical training and uphold health standards, noting that doctors are essential to saving lives, and the quality of their education should not be compromised.

“The greatest wealth for humanity is knowledge and health. While we can continue living with limited knowledge, poor health makes survival impossible,” Hun Manet added.

The Prime Minister also encouraged medical professionals to provide even better healthcare services to build greater trust and confidence among the public.
