National Assembly President Khuon Sodary to Lead High-Level Delegation to China

PHNOM PENH, September 17, 2024 — At the invitation of Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, National Assembly President Khuon Sodary will lead a high-level delegation from Cambodia's National Assembly on an official visit to the People's Republic of China from September 22 to 26, 2024.

The visit aims to further strengthen and deepen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries' parliaments, both bilaterally and multilaterally. This effort is in line with the spirit of traditional friendship and the strategic partnership between Cambodia and China, with the goal of bolstering cooperation and mutual interests for the benefit of both nations.

During the visit, President Khuon Sodary is scheduled to meet with senior leaders of the Chinese National People's Congress, including Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. She will also hold bilateral talks with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parliaments. This agreement will expand parliamentary cooperation through exchanges of visits and the sharing of experiences at various levels. Additionally, President Khuon Sodary and Zhao Leji will preside over the signing of a cooperation agreement between the secretariats of the Cambodian and Chinese National Assemblies.

Following the official engagements in Beijing, the Cambodian delegation will continue their visit to Shanghai, where they will hold talks with local officials and further strengthen ties with Chinese counterparts.

The visit will also include stops at significant cultural, tourism, and industrial sites in both Beijing and Shanghai, fostering people-to-people connections and enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including tourism, culture, economy, trade, education, and technology.
