Cambodia Red Cross President Expresses Sympathy to Vietnam Following Typhoon Yagi Disaster

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – September 2024*: In response to the devastating aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, which has severely impacted northern Vietnam, Cambodia Red Cross (CRC) President, Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen, has extended her condolences to Mrs. Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

The powerful typhoon triggered landslides and widespread flooding, resulting in the tragic loss of nearly 200 lives, with 125 individuals still missing. Additionally, 800 people were injured, 130,268 houses damaged, and 57,857 homes submerged under floodwaters, leaving thousands in need of assistance.

In her letter, Samdech Bun Rany expressed deep sadness over the disaster, stating, "In this hard situation, in the name of the Cambodian Red Cross and in my personal name, I would like to convey my heartfelt sympathy and share the suffering with the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the Vietnamese people." She also extended her deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the disaster.

She further offered her prayers for a swift recovery, adding, "May I pray for the speedy recovery of the devastation and success in the restoration of the ravaged areas with the joint efforts of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Sister National Societies, and the Vietnamese people."

Samdech Bun Rany concluded the letter by reaffirming her respect and support for Mrs. Bui Thi Hoa and the Vietnam Red Cross Society during this difficult time.

The Cambodian Red Cross stands in solidarity with Vietnam as the nation works tirelessly to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.
