Techo International Airport Begins Test Flights Ahead of 2025 Opening

Phnom Penh: The test flight of the Techo International Airport, a Class 4F facility in Cambodia, is scheduled to take place from September 8 to 12, 2024. This test flight, also known as a flight inspection, aims to verify the functionality and safety of key airport systems such as the air traffic control system, Instrument Landing System (ILS/DME), air navigation, radar approach, and radio communication equipment. These inspections are crucial to ensure that all systems are operating correctly before the airport opens for full operations in the first half of 2025.

Techo International Airport, located 20 kilometers south of Phnom Penh in Kandal and Takeo provinces, is designed to accommodate the world’s largest aircraft, including the Boeing 747-800 and Airbus A380-800. The airport is currently about 84% complete, with a total construction budget of USD 1.5 billion, of which USD 1.22 billion has already been spent. The project is a joint venture between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).
