Angkor Institution Eliminates Information Requirements for Foreign Tourists Purchasing Tickets

Phnom Penh, September 2, 2024 — The Board of Directors of the Angkor Institution, in its 3rd mandate, has announced a significant policy change aimed at simplifying the ticket purchasing process for foreign tourists visiting the Angkor Resort. Starting from the end of September 2024, the institution will no longer require tourists to provide personal information such as photos, nationality, age group, and gender when purchasing one-day tickets to the site.

However, for visitors opting for 3-day and 7-day tickets, the requirement to provide a photo for identification purposes will remain in place until the end of 2024. This adjustment reflects the institution’s efforts to streamline procedures while maintaining necessary security measures for longer-duration passes.

Additionally, the Angkor Institution's Board has approved changes to the current control systems at the site. These modifications include reducing the number of checkpoints at the four main entrances to the resort, with security checks now limited to the entrance of the temples themselves. This measure aims to enhance the visitor experience by minimizing delays while maintaining essential security protocols.

In line with these changes, the Board has also agreed to advance the institution’s ticketing system by developing a more modern approach that includes the use of self-service machines and a dedicated mobile application. These innovations are part of a broader initiative to promote electronic payment methods within Cambodia, making the ticket purchasing process more convenient and accessible for tourists.

The Angkor Institution's updated approach reflects its commitment to improving the overall experience for visitors, embracing technological advancements, and ensuring that security measures are appropriate and efficient. As Cambodia continues to prioritize its cultural heritage and tourism industry, these changes are expected to facilitate a more streamlined and welcoming environment for the millions of tourists who visit Angkor each year.
