PHNOM PENH, August 27, 2024 — Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced the establishment of a "Border Infrastructure Fund" to raise additional resources for infrastructure development along Cambodia's borders, particularly focusing on the construction of a border ring road. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for Cambodians both domestically and abroad to contribute to the Royal Government's efforts in national defense and development, reinforcing the spirit of Khmer unity to maintain peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and to promote sustainable development in border areas.
In response to this initiative, several leaders from the Royal Government and the private sector have volunteered to contribute to the fund:
Dr. Kirt Chantharith has pledged more than 29 million riels, equivalent to his one-year salary.
Dr. Chou Vichit and Lok Chumteav Mao Nara have donated 50 million riels.
Yim Viseth and Lok Chumteav have contributed 10 million riels.
Nong Veasna, Member of Parliament for Kampong Thom, has donated 10 million riels.
Ouk Savuth has contributed $5,000.
Hok Vanthina has donated 2 million riels.
Kim Sopheak and Lok Chumteav have pledged 10 million riels.
Lt. Gen. Kheng Sarath and his wife have donated $1,500.
Keo Socheat has contributed 3 million riels.
Keo Bengwat and family have donated $2,500.
Dr. Hean Sahip has pledged 8 million riels.
Chum Lino has contributed 1 million riels.
Singers Miss Amie, Miss Long Leakena, Ron Kimson, Miss Na Na, Mr. Aam Vanny, Mr. Dora, Mr. Gate, Mr. Phat Reaksa, Bo Tang Heang, Mr. Thoeun Borey, and Uncle Singer have each donated 1 million riels.
Chhim Sauki and Lok Chumteav Dr. Prak Sophoan Neary have contributed 4 million riels.
Chhang Sopheak, Ek Piseth, and Hem Sophoeun and his wife have collectively donated over 3 million riels.
Yim Peng Khun, Miss Ung Srey Pov, Miss Hak Kim Heang, Rout Youngko, Pei Penh Somalina, Chhim Ty Koy, Ngin Khorn and Lok Chumteav, and Professor Ngy Meng, Director of Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, have also made significant contributions ranging from 500,000 to 4 million riels.
The collective contributions from government leaders, private sector figures, and public personalities reflect a strong national commitment to enhancing Cambodia's border infrastructure and ensuring sustainable development in these critical areas.
