Commerce Minister Highlights the Role of Women Entrepreneurs in Trade

PHNOM PENH, August 27, 2024 — The Minister of Commerce, Cham Nimul, has emphasized the crucial role of women's perspectives in the trade sector, noting that their involvement fosters a more effective exchange of knowledge and experience.

Cham Nimul made these remarks while presiding over the SheTrade Outlook Validation workshop at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh Hotel on August 26. The event brought together representatives from various government agencies, embassies, and development partners. It was co-organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the International Business Centre, with support from the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO).

The minister described the workshop as a valuable opportunity to promote gender equality in trade, address data gaps, and identify key areas for inclusive policy reforms. She highlighted the Ministry of Commerce's ongoing efforts to create a supportive business environment for women through the implementation of favorable policies, procedures, and recognition initiatives.

Cham Nimul also proposed several solutions to overcome existing challenges and to further promote women's economic empowerment in Cambodia. Her suggestions aim to enhance opportunities for women entrepreneurs and ensure their active participation in the country's economic development.
