National Police Commissioner General Vows Strict Action Against Illegal Riots

Phnom Penh: The General Commissioner of the National Police, General Sar Thet, has made a stern declaration that strict measures will be taken against any individual or group involved in organizing or participating in illegal riots. This announcement was made during a press conference held at the Ministry of Interior on the afternoon of August 13, 2024.

General Sar Thet emphasized the unwavering position of the National Police Force to support the Royal Government of Cambodia in combating extremist opposition groups. He also urged parents and guardians of individuals involved in such activities to guide their children away from these rebel groups to avoid facing the full force of the law.

Furthermore, General Sar Thet revealed that the police have gathered substantial evidence against groups planning to engage in demonstrations aimed at overthrowing the Royal Government. He asserted that any attempt to undermine the legitimate government would be met with zero tolerance, reinforcing the commitment of the armed forces to protect the state.

The press conference also highlighted a message from Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, who reiterated Cambodia’s dedication to peace and security. He clarified that the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Triangle Development Project does not involve the lands of the four provinces of Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri, Kratie, and Stung Treng in any joint ventures, but only in cooperation at a strategic level.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in an audio message on August 12, 2024, also stressed the Royal Government’s commitment to enforcing strict measures against those who seek to disrupt national stability through illegal riots.

General Sar Thet concluded his address by urging all citizens to avoid being influenced by extremist opposition groups, particularly those operating from abroad, and to immediately withdraw from any such activities to maintain peace and order in the country.
