Senate President Hun Sen Warns Opposition: Do Not Cross the Red Line in Support of Illegal Rebels

Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, The President of the Senate, has issued a stern warning to opposition factions within the country, cautioning them against crossing the "red line" by collaborating with illegal rebels intent on toppling the legitimate Royal Government.

This caution comes in light of recent provocations by outlawed groups operating from abroad, who have been inciting protests against the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Project. These groups, according to Hun Sen, are attempting to destabilize Cambodia by drawing misleading comparisons with the situation in Bangladesh.

In a statement delivered to the "United for Cambodia" group, Hun Sen denounced on August 12, 2024, what he described as the "deceptive tactics" of these rebels. He accused them of using the development project as a ruse to foment unrest and challenge the government's authority.

"Brothers, the incitement from foreign actors is extremely dangerous at this juncture," Hun Sen declared. "However, the people of Cambodia must not be misled by these tactics. I urge you not to cross the red line by participating in efforts to overthrow the government, as these illegal rebels have been advocating in recent days. The government stands ready to take all necessary measures to prevent disorder and maintain social stability."

Senate President Hun Sen underscored the government’s commitment to safeguarding peace, political stability, and the welfare of the Cambodian people.

In an audio message, he reaffirmed his determination to protect the nation’s stability at any cost, despite external attempts to disrupt Cambodia’s economic development. He also noted that authorities have identified the members of the "United for the Nation" group, warning them not to underestimate the government’s awareness and resolve.

"I have listened to your communications," Senate President Hun Sen stated, "but the provocations from outside are leading people down a path to disaster—a disaster from which it will be difficult to recover."

The President of the Senate Hun Sen clarified that his remarks were not intended as a threat, but as a clear assertion of the government’s duty to defend national interests and protect the well-being of Cambodia's 17 million citizens. He stressed that the government would not allow a small faction to endanger the nation’s peace and prosperity.

Addressing comparisons made between Cambodia and Bangladesh, The President of the Senate Hun Sen dismissed them as unfounded. "Do not confuse Cambodia’s situation with that of Bangladesh," he cautioned. "Such a misjudgment could have grave consequences."

In conclusion, The President of the Senate reiterated that the "red line" is defined by the Constitution of Cambodia. While acknowledging public concerns regarding territorial integrity and national sovereignty, he urged citizens to remain vigilant against foreign provocations that could threaten the stability and security of the nation.
