VannDa’s Unforgettable Paris Olympics Performance Elevates Cambodian Music

Phnom Penh, 13 August 2024 – Cambodians across the nation are expressing immense pride following the performance of hip-hop sensation Vann Da at the 2024 Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony on August 11. Vann Da, who has rapidly risen to international fame, represented Cambodia on one of the world's largest stages, showcasing his talent in a moment that has resonated deeply with his compatriots.

The “ASEAN Society and Culture” Facebook Page celebrated the achievement, stating, “Super Star from Cambodia Vann Da is performing in the Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony. He’s wearing Cambodian traditional [costume]. Among all the 206 countries participating in the Olympics 2024, Cambodia is here to perform in this spectacular event. How amazing it is, we are proud.”

Images of Vann Da on stage, donning traditional Khmer attire, have flooded social media, accompanied by an outpouring of praise from fans and fellow Cambodians. The performance, set against the backdrop of an international audience, has drawn thousands of supportive comments and shares online.

One proud supporter commented, “So proud of this man. Always speechless, but look how amazing he is. Wearing Khmer traditional clothes on the stage with 200+ countries watching while performing a Khmer song.”

Vann Da, born Mann Vanda on January 22, 1997, in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province, has been passionate about music from a young age. He has since become a household name, particularly for his hit song “Time to Rise,” which features the legendary Chapei Dang Veng Master Kong Nay. The song, which blends modern hip-hop with traditional Cambodian music, reached a significant milestone of 100 million views on YouTube in October 2022, making it the first Cambodian song to achieve such success.

VannDa’s performance at the Paris Olympics has further solidified his status as a cultural icon, not just in Cambodia, but on the global stage.
