PM: Cambodia Cannot Become a Rich Country Without Knowledgeable and Skilled Human Resources

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Manet, emphasized that the nation cannot achieve wealth and prosperity if its human resources lack the knowledge and skills necessary to compete on the international stage.
During the inauguration ceremony of DE MONTFORT University on August 8, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government of the 7th legislature places the highest priority on human factors in the country’s development. This focus aligns with Cambodia's 2050 vision to elevate the nation to a high-income status.
"We cannot become a rich country if our human resources do not possess the knowledge and skills to compete internationally, if they are not healthy enough, and if they are unable to contribute to building the foundations of society, economics, and knowledge-based industries," said Hun Manet. He stressed the importance of equipping the population with the capabilities needed to support sustainable development.
He highlighted that the first phase of the Pentagon Strategy, which identifies five key priorities, places a significant emphasis on human resources as the highest priority. "People are at the core of our policy," Hun Manet stated, underscoring that education and the training of human capital are central to the Royal Government's long-term investment strategy. This approach aims to establish a socio-economic and industrial base that prioritizes skills and knowledge to ensure Cambodia avoids the middle-income trap on its journey to becoming a high-income country by 2050.
The Prime Minister’s remarks at the inauguration underscore the critical role of human resources in national development. The establishment of institutions like DE MONTFORT University is a step towards enhancing the quality of education and training available in Cambodia, thereby equipping the younger generation with the tools needed to thrive in a competitive global environment.
This strategic focus on human capital development reflects the Royal Government’s commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy, ensuring that Cambodia's growth is both inclusive and sustainable as it progresses towards its long-term economic goals.
