PM Emphasizes National Unity at Funan Techo Canal Groundbreaking

Kandal: In a significant step towards national development, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet inaugurated the construction of the Preah Dig Funik Techo Canal, lauding it as a symbol of national independence and unity. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on the morning of August 5, 2024, in Samrong Thom Commune, Kien Svay District, Kandal Province.

Addressing the attendees, PM Hun Manet underscored the historical importance of waterways in Khmer culture, noting their role in the country’s prosperity. "The achievement of launching the Funan Techo Canal project stands as a new pride for our nation," he declared, linking the project to the enduring legacy of Cambodia's ancestors.

The Prime Minister dedicated this milestone to the Khmer ancestors, former King Norodom Sihanouk, Queen Mother, King Norodom Sihamoni, and the heroes who liberated Cambodia from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot. He also recognized the contemporary Cambodian people, highlighting their collective efforts in the national movement that brought this project to fruition.

"It is not just an infrastructure project; it is a project that reflects our nationalism," PM Hun Manet emphasized, highlighting the deeper significance of the canal beyond its practical utility.

He further encouraged the nation to view the canal’s construction as a legacy for future generations, an endeavor that honors Cambodia’s glorious past while inspiring a commitment to a prosperous future. "These celebrations underscore the nation’s dedication to unity, as we come together in a single national movement to build our country’s renown," he stated.
