PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2024 — The Ministry of Women's Affairs announced today that a Cambodian delegation, led by Ms. Koung Sorita, Secretary of State and Chair of the ASEAN Council on Women for Peace and Security, participated in the first-ever "Southeast Asian Women Ambassadors for Peace" forum. This historic event was held alongside the Annual ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Vientiane, Laos from July 27 to 29, 2024.

The forum convened 40 high-ranking women ministers and ambassadors from across Southeast Asia, emphasizing the vital role of women in diplomatic and peacekeeping efforts in the region. The event aimed to establish foundational relationships among Southeast Asian women ambassadors, fostering collaboration and exploring opportunities for joint initiatives to tackle global challenges.

Key objectives of the forum included enhancing preventive diplomacy and conflict resolution strategies within ASEAN and advancing the implementation of national and regional Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) commitments. Discussions also focused on the challenges and effective approaches to mediation and negotiation within the WPS context.
