Cambodia and the Philippines to Enhance Military Collaboration

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2024 — In a development, Cambodia and the Philippines have agreed to enhance the collaboration between their military forces. This commitment was cemented during discussions at the Peace Palace today between Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet and the visiting Commander of the Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido.

During the meeting, both leaders acknowledged the positive progression of military relations between their nations and discussed ways to further deepen ties. Key areas of future cooperation include joint military training, human resources development, and the exchange of information and experiences.

The leaders also deliberated on strategies to combat cybercrime and strengthen capacities for disaster relief operations and humanitarian assistance. Another focus of the talks was promoting direct collaboration between individual military units from the two countries.

Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido expressed a strong commitment to advancing the cooperative relationship between the Philippine and Cambodian armies.

Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the ongoing joint training initiatives, highlighting their role in enhancing operational readiness and mutual understanding, especially in response to non-traditional security threats.
