Behind the Camera: Lessons SFA Learned During Their 2024 Shoot

PHNOM PENH, July 27, 2024 — Following the completion of two short films, "Missing" and "Parasomnia," the Sunflower Film Alliance (SFA) has entered the post-production phase, focusing primarily on editing. These projects, spanning the genres of detective thriller and fantasy thriller, were developed from the creative efforts of two distinct production teams.

Ms. Var Monyroath, a Department of Media and Communications student and member of the Color Film crew responsible for screenplays and assistant directing, shared insights from their recent production challenges. "Despite facing numerous hurdles, we embraced these experiences as valuable lessons and memorable moments," she said.

Mr. Huon Dina, the lead actor from "Missing," produced by Color Film, expressed his satisfaction with the team's professionalism. "From the very first audition, it was clear how meticulous they were. What stood out was the team's unity and the positive energy they sustained. They addressed our concerns thoughtfully, especially regarding character portrayal, which made collaborating during the limited shoot time much smoother," he noted.

Echoing the sentiments of effective teamwork, Ms. Mo Chandy, sound recordist for "Parasomnia" by White Birds, highlighted the excellent group dynamics. "The last two days of shooting were phenomenal. The crew's coordination and enthusiasm created an incredibly supportive and enjoyable environment on set," she commented.

Mr. Oum Vantharith, Senior Development Specialist at Techo Startup Center and advisor to SFA, emphasized the importance of practical experience in skill development. "Each batch of filmmakers benefits greatly from real-world experiences that shape their professional and personal growth. I look forward to the innovative works our young filmmakers will present at the upcoming Chaktomuk Short Film Festival in late October," he stated.

This year, SFA has garnered significant support from various partners, including the Sombat Somphone Memorial Fund, International Network of Engaged Buddhists, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Ministry of Information, EAC News and several media and film schools. This collaboration underscores SFA's commitment to fostering stronger ties within the local film community.

However, the organization is actively seeking additional financial contributions to ensure the festival's success. Contributions can be made through the ABA - Sunflower Film Organization account number 000 804 814.
