Prime Minister Hun Manet Pays Tribute to Late Vietnamese Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong

Phnom Penh: On the morning of July 26, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet, along with other dignitaries from the Royal Government, laid a wreath in honor of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, who passed away at the age of 80 on July 19, 2024 at Embassy of Vietnam to Cambodia. The Prime Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam, as well as to the family of the deceased.

In his heartfelt message, Prime Minister Hun Manet lauded General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as a pivotal leader dedicated to the welfare and prosperity of the Vietnamese people and the strengthening of the fraternal ties between Cambodia and Vietnam. He highlighted the profound impact of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong on fostering the deep relations between the two nations.

A brief biography of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong reveals a life devoted to service and leadership. Born in 1944 in Dong Hoi commune, Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong pursued an illustrious career in politics and education. He was a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and served in various capacities, including as the editor-in-chief of the Communist Review, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in Hanoi, and Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Theoretical Council of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong also held significant positions such as the President of the National Assembly of Vietnam and Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. His tenure was marked by his commitment to Marxism-Leninism and the advancement of Vietnam's ideological, cultural, scientific, and educational affairs.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the high-level delegation, signed a condolence book, expressing their sorrow and respect for the late Secretary General. Prime Minister Hun Manet's message conveyed the deep loss felt by the Cambodian government and its people.
