PHNOM PENH, July 26, 2024 — Vietnam has committed to increasing its electricity supply to Cambodia, potentially boosting it to 400 megawatts or more to support Cambodia's economic growth in the era of Industry 4.0.

This pledge was made during a meeting in Hanoi on July 25 between the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, and the President of the Senate of Cambodia, Hun Sen.

Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the role of enhanced economic connectivity and mutual support in complementary economic areas. He expressed satisfaction with the current arrangement, under which Vietnam supplies 250 megawatts of electricity to Cambodia. He confirmed that the agreement is set for renewal and signing in 2025, with provisions to increase the supply to meet Cambodia's growing economic needs.

The discussions also covered the tripartite cooperation among Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos, and bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, investment, tourism, infrastructure, and politics.

Hun Sen was in Hanoi to pay his respects to the late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, who passed away on July 19.
