Cambodia, Vietnam Vow to Build Long-Lasting Brotherly Friendship

Hanoi: On July 25, 2024, during a tribute to the late Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, held significant talks with To Lam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in Hanoi, Vietnam.

In this important meeting, both leaders expressed gratitude towards each other. Mr. To Lam thanked the President of the Cambodian Senate for taking valuable time to honor Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong. He also conveyed his appreciation to the King of Cambodia, the Prime Minister, and other leaders for their messages of condolence over the loss of the Vietnamese leader, which is also felt deeply by the Cambodian people.

The two sides shared a deep sense of loss for this significant state figure. They pledged to enhance cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as with Laos. The commitment to nurturing a brotherly bond between Cambodia and Vietnam, and to further strengthen it for future generations, was reiterated.

Mr. To Lam particularly thanked Senate President Hun Sen for his heartfelt participation in paying final respects to Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, emphasizing the valuable decades-long friendship between the two leaders. He assured that, as the new President of Vietnam, he would continue to build on the existing strong relationship between the two nations and their parties.

Both leaders agreed to maintain and enhance cooperation across all sectors, implementing existing agreements more effectively, and honoring the cooperation agreements established by previous generations of leaders.
