PHNOM PENH, July 23, 2024 — Senate President Hun Sen welcomed Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Operational Support, Atul Khare, at the Senate Palace this morning. During the meeting, Hun Sen expressed gratitude for Khare’s visit to Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provinces, which highlighted Cambodia’s progress in development and mine clearance efforts.
Hun Sen praised the strong partnership between Cambodia and the United Nations in promoting global peace and detailed the successful Win-Win policy that has ensured continuous peace in Cambodia since the late 1990s.
The Senate President also extended thanks to the United Nations for its condolences and support following the loss of 11 Cambodian peacekeepers who died while serving under the UN. He underscored the sacrifice made by these individuals in the pursuit of global peace.
During his visit, Khare lauded Cambodia's developmental strides and its significant contributions to international peacekeeping efforts. He highlighted Cambodia's upcoming role as host for the UN-ROK-Cambodia Triangular Partnership later this year and the UN-Japan-Cambodia Triangular Partnership in 2025.
Khare commended the bravery, discipline, professionalism, and responsibility of Cambodian peacekeepers, acknowledging their critical role in international peacekeeping missions.
