Kandal Province to Host Event with Khmer Singers and Martial Arts Competition to Celebrate Opening of Prek Chik Funan Techo
Phnom Penh, 20 July 2024 – Governor Kouch Chamroeun of Kandal Province announced that the Kandal Provincial Administration will organize a Khmer boxing match featuring renowned singers in Takhmao City. This event will celebrate the historic opening of Prek Chik Funan Techo on August 5, 2024.
During a visit to the Funan Techo Prek Chik site in Kien Svay district on July 21, 2024, Governor Chamroeun shared that the opening of Prek Chik is a significant initiative inspired by the long-term vision of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and President of the Senate. This vision is being realized by the Royal Government under the 7th legislature of the National Assembly, aiming to create a lasting historical legacy for future generations.
Governor Chamroeun highlighted the substantial socio-economic benefits of the 180-kilometer Funan Techo canal project. The project is set to enhance connectivity, establish a multi-modal transportation system, reduce travel distance and time, and lower competitive transportation costs directly to the sea. Additionally, it will improve irrigation and flood relief systems, boost agricultural productivity in the southwest, benefit fisheries and aquaculture, and promote tourism and investment. The canal project is also expected to facilitate the development of special economic zones, industrial zones, and export processing areas.
Governor Chamroeun also appealed to residents affected by the canal project to cooperate and allow the excavation team to work behind their homes. He emphasized the importance of the Funan Techo canal for the nation and future generations.
