Suspect Detained in Chbar Ampov Murder Case

Phnom Penh – The Criminal Police Department has arrested a suspect involved in a fatal stabbing incident that claimed the life of a man in Chbar Ampov.

The murder occurred on July 20, 2024, at 21:20 on Lum Road, Champouk Eak Village, Sangkat Prek Thmey, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh. The suspect, identified as Ly Chivoan, also known as Poy, a 33-year-old Cambodian man, allegedly stabbed and killed Chan Chhaya, a 32-year-old Cambodian man, following an argument and physical altercation during a drinking session. After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene on a white McScope motorcycle, whose license plate remains unknown.

According to a release from the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Interior, the specialized force of the department received information about the incident and launched a search operation. On July 21, 2024, at 16:10, the police successfully apprehended the suspect in Mol Village, Sangkat Dangkor, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh.

During initial questioning, the suspect confessed to stabbing the victim after their argument escalated into a fight. The department is currently processing the case following standard legal procedures.
