Cambodian Prime Minister Urges Responsible Social Media Use

PHNOM PENH, July 19, 2024 — During the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Samdech Preah Brahma Rattanamony Pin Sem Museum at Raja Bo Pagoda in Siem Reap, Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all social media users to exercise greater responsibility in their online interactions.

Prime Minister Manet emphasized the detrimental impact of misinformation, stating, "I would like to call on all users to use social media responsibly, otherwise fake news will pollute our society."

He highlighted the risks associated with the spread of false information, noting that it has the potential to cause social unrest. The Prime Minister also encouraged users to verify the accuracy of the information they share and to correct any false information they may propagate.

"Social media is a powerful tool that can foster communication and understanding when used wisely," Manet added, urging the public to be vigilant against fake news and to engage more conscientiously with content, particularly that involving artificial intelligence.
