Senate President Hun Sen Seeks Continued Chinese Support for Cambodian Development

PHNOM PENH, July 19, 2024 — Senate President Hun Sen has called on China to bolster its support for Cambodia’s development across various sectors. The request was made during a meeting at the Senate Palace this morning with Wang Wenbin, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia.

Hun Sen congratulated Ambassador Wang on his new role and praised the enduring friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China. He emphasized the significance of trust and mutual respect in advancing the bilateral relationship from a strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership and a steadfast friendship aimed at building a shared future.

Moreover, the former Prime Minister reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the "One China" policy and reiterated that issues pertaining to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet, and Xinjiang are internal matters of China.

Ambassador Wang lauded Hun Sen for his pivotal role over the past three decades in fostering the strong ties between the two nations. He committed to striving for even greater socio-economic, security, military, and people-to-people collaboration between Cambodia and China.
