
Ministry of Information Calls for Respect for and Strengthening Access to Information and Combating False Information
Phnom Penh - The Ministry of Information on Thursday, July 18, issued a notice to the public on the respect and strengthening of the right to information. The ministry has been preparing to organize the field of journalism, improve information quality, and enhance information security to prevent and combat false information.
In the announcement, the Ministry of Information emphasized the proper implementation and adherence to professional ethics among journalists and professionals in the field of information and audio-visual media. This includes journalists, content producers on all types of social media, and Online Monetizers (MMO).
The Ministry of Information confirmed that it will soon announce the implementation of the "Journalism Professional Charter," which serves as the foundation of journalistic professional ethics for journalists, media associations, and professionals in the field of journalism and audio-visual media. This will also apply to all social media users in Cambodia.
Additionally, to continue strengthening order in the field of journalism and to promote professional ethics, the ministry aims to prevent and eliminate corrupt groups who have obtained licenses from the Ministry of Information and use them for personal gain, contrary to professional ethics and the Press Law. The Ministry of Information urges journalists, social media users, and MMOs to take responsible actions in distributing honest and ethical information in accordance with the Law on the Press.
The ministry also calls on the public who have experienced threats or pressure from journalists to report these incidents to the Ministry of Information via telephone or Telegram at 015 483 283/012 488 156 or to file a complaint directly with the Ministry. The Ministry will take measures in accordance with legal procedures.
