INTERNATIONAL: We’ve all been taken for a walk by a dog tugging on their leash, but in Croatia, they’ve turned this into an annual event, with a race for dogs and their owners. There were all sorts of shapes and sizes – dogs, as well as their owners. The traditional end-of-summer canine race is hosted by one of Croatia's few dog-friendly beaches.
The event includes a short run and swim, although not every dog was keen to jump in. After the splashing of the biathlon it was time for the next event, a competitive ice cream speed-eating and beer drinking contest – yes – for the dogs.
13 owners and their best friends took part in this year’s competition, with numbers down because of the pandemic. This year's race was won by Antonija Pirker and her two-year-old rescue, Nando. The ice-cream competition was won by Jagoda, with her owner saying she wasn’t surprised as her pet eats everything, even from garbage bags that have been left open.
