Phnom Penh, 18 July 2024: The Cambodia Quality Seal (CQS) has certified the quality of dried shrimp and mussel enterprises in the Peam Krasop community of Koh Kong, enabling their entry into international markets.

The announcement was made by Thong Ra, an officer of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), during a study visit on July 17.

The enterprises have successfully expanded their supply in the domestic market and are now prepared to export, particularly dried mussels, to international markets. Thong Ra highlighted the importance of adhering to quality and food safety standards for exporting fisheries products to international markets, including the European Union (EU).

Bryan Fornari, Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Cambodia, stated that the EU would collaborate with Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries to provide technical support in processing and packaging certified enterprises' products for export to Europe.

Fornari noted that with EU support, Cambodia has already exported agricultural products, such as Kampot pepper and cashew nuts, to European markets.

Enterprises in the Peam Krasop community have the capacity to grow 2,500 to 3,000 tonnes of mussels per year, with the harvesting season running from November to March.

In addition to the Peam Krasop community, two other communities in Kapi and Chroy Pras within the same province are also involved in mussel cultivation.
