General Department of Taxation Launches 2024 Tax Audit Program to Strengthen Financial Management

Phnom Penh: On July 9, 2024, the General Department of Taxation (GDT) issued a notification regarding the implementation of the 2024 tax audit program. This year, the program will involve 3,006 taxpayers. Each enterprise will receive a notification letter detailing the tax audit to prepare for cooperation with the tax administration.

According to the GDT, this tax audit adheres to the Tax Law dated May 16, 2023, and the Prakas of the Ministry of Economy and Finance dated March 13, 2019, concerning tax audits. It also follows the manuals on tax audit procedures and protocols for tax officials and taxpayers, which were put into effect on April 9, 2024.

The GDT has informed all taxpayers that it will conduct on-site audits based on the principles outlined in the Manual on Tax Audit Procedures. The GDT further clarified that an enterprise can be subject to an on-site audit within three years unless the GDT identifies any risks or irregularities.

Should an enterprise wish to conduct a tax audit, it may apply to the GDT to review its tax obligations within the three-year period.

The GDT expresses its hope that all self-declared taxpayers will pay close attention to and effectively implement the contents of this notice.
