Phnom Penh, 16 July 2024: Siem Reap unveils plans for new major tourist spot to revitalize the city's charm. Deputy Governor of Siem Reap, H.E. Yun Linne, announced an ambitious plan to create a third major tourist attraction in Siem Reap, focusing on the Riverside and Wat Bo Surrounding area. The announcement came at the 'One Vision, One Siem Reap' event, put together by IPS Cambodia and ULS, leaving attendees abuzz with anticipation.

In front of an audience that included representatives from the Department of Tourism and diverse industry experts, H.E. Yun Linne took the opportunity to reflect on the significant impact the Covid pandemic had on Siem Reap’s tourism sector, describing it as "seriously injured." He underscored the government's active role in transforming Siem Reap into a smart city and its proactive stance in reviving the industry such as the construction of 38 road project, the launch of new Siem Reap international Airport, and the introduction of modern public transportation have been pivotal. "These developments not only aim to restore but to elevate Siem Reap's position as a must-visit destination, ensuring a seamless and enriched experience for tourists," he added.

Among the groundbreaking announcements made by H.E Yun Linne was the development of a third major tourist attraction for the city, strategically situated along the Siem Reap riverside and surrounding areas of Wat Bo. "This new project, covering 40 hectares of land along the Siem Reap river and Wat Bo area, is supported by the Royal Government and aims to complement the existing attractions of the Angkor Archeological Park and the vibrant Pub Street," HE Yun Linne stated.

In a deliberate move to promote sustainability alongside urban and touristic development, the Deputy Governor also announced a green campaign, focusing on the extensive planting of trees along the newly developed roads and in various districts around Siem Reap. This initiative is designed to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability, further cementing its status as a leading tourist destination.

In his address, H.E. Yun Linne highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors, commending the joint efforts of entities such as IPS, ULS, and the Siem Reap Tourism Club in the city's ongoing transformation. He pointed out the crucial intersection of real estate development and tourism promotion, declaring this partnership vital for the region's sustainable economic growth.
