Over 2.5 Tonnes of Live Mantis Shrimps Exported

Phnom Penh, 16 July 2024: Since the beginning of 2024, Cambodia has exported over 2.5 tonnes of live mantis shrimps to the People's Republic of China.

This information was disclosed on July 15 by Ms. Im Rachna, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

She highlighted these figures during a meeting in Phnom Penh before a roadshow aimed at promoting fishery production in the provinces of Kampot, Koh Kong, and Preah Sihanouk.

Due to hot weather in the early months of the year, the harvest of mantis shrimps decreased, leading to an increase in market prices.

Ms. Rachna stated that the ministry will consider encouraging domestic breeding of mantis shrimps if the demand for exports to international markets continues to rise.

Cambodia initially exported 45 kilogrammes of mantis shrimps to China on September 16, 2023.

In 2023, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Cambodia exported 1,095 kilogrammes of live mantis shrimps to China.

In addition to mantis shrimps, Cambodia also exports other aquatic products to China, including live eels, frozen eels, and frozen freshwater glass shrimps.

The export of aquatic products to China represents a significant development for Cambodia's fishery sector, complementing the export of agricultural products such as milled rice, fresh mango, banana, and longan.
