Phnom Penh – July 15, 2024: The Komeito Party of Japan, represented by Mr. Yamaguchi Natsuo, has pledged continued support as the Vision 2025 initiative is extended for an additional five years. This announcement was made during a meeting with Cambodia's National Assembly President, Khuon Sudary.

Mr. Yamaguchi emphasized Japan's dedication to aiding Cambodia's demining activities, which remain critical as the country grapples with the legacy of explosive ordnance. National Assembly spokesman, Keo Piseth, reported that Mr. Yamaguchi expressed keen interest in Cambodia's development and reiterated Japan's commitment to humanitarian efforts in the region.

"The initial target of achieving a landmine-free Cambodia by 2025 has now been postponed to 2030," Keo Piseth stated, underscoring the ongoing challenges the nation faces. He confirmed Japan's readiness to support demining initiatives and humanitarian projects moving forward.

Since January 1979, Cambodia has recorded 64,047 victims of unexploded ordnance, highlighting the urgency of demining efforts.

During the meeting, Mr. Yamaguchi also reinforced the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and Japan, spanning multiple sectors, including economic development, security, and climate change.

President Khuon Sudary expressed gratitude for Japan’s longstanding support, which has been pivotal in Cambodia's peacekeeping and reconstruction efforts since the 1990s. Both sides acknowledged the need for enduring collaboration to enhance friendship and address regional and global challenges.
